Welcome back to Noshin with Noah! On April 1, Popeyes came out with a pickle menu. Of course, I needed to try it. I’m an avid pickle eater — love me a good pickle. However, I am not so in love with them to drink the juice straight from the jar … or out of a plastic Popeyes cup.

2.5 out of 5 stars

This leads me to the first item on the menu: Pickle Lemonade. This new Pickle Lemonade was disgusting. There was not a single hint of lemonade. It was as if I put a straw into a jar of pickles and started to drink.

The next item on the menu was their new Fried Pickles. These were also a disappointment. Just by looking at them, you could tell they’d been sitting under a heating lamp for hours, and that’s exactly how they tasted. I never got a slight hint of pickle when eating them because they were all over-battered.

The Pickle Glaze Sandwich was when the meal started to get better, but it was still nothing extraordinary. The sandwich consisted of the exact same patty, bun and pickles as the original sandwich, but was doused in Popeyes’ new pickle sauce. The overuse of the pickle sauce threw me off. The menu said “glazed,” not “drowned.” Too much of the sauce had an uncomfortably scratchy texture on my tongue.

The last and best things on this new pickle menu were the Pickle Glaze Wings. I ordered the bone-in, because let’s face it, bone-in is better than boneless. These wings were actually glazed with the sauce, and it was a perfect amount. The pickle flavor wasn’t overbearing, and there was a perfect amount of spice. These wings were so good they boosted my original rating from 1 out of 5 stars to 2.5 out of 5 stars.

For a college student, this would be a fun menu to try because pickle-flavored anything just sounds intriguing, but for $18.91, I wouldn’t bother. Save your money and only buy the wings, and please drink some regular lemonade.
