Hey Mountain Lions! I’m Noah and this is my new column where I try food trends. To preface, I’m nowhere near a foodie. I don’t go out to fancy restaurants or anything like that, but I can tell you with confidence if a fast-food menu item sucks or is the best thing on the planet. So, without further ado, the Minecraft menu!

On Sept. 4, 2024, Minecraft fans from around the world were either super excited or completely disgusted at the release of the “A Minecraft Movie” trailer. The design of the movie looked straight out of an AI generator, and fans were outraged all over social media. However, with a franchise like Minecraft, it doesn’t matter whether the movie is an obvious money grab or not. The profits will be gargantuan.

Thus, we were given the “gift” of a Minecraft menu at one of the biggest fast-food franchises in the world: McDonald’s. On April 1, McDonald’s released its new menu, advertising toys and a new Nether Flame sauce. Exclusive toys and themed meals have become one of McDonald’s main attractions, but is the Minecraft menu worth it?

The menu consisted of basic McDonald’s items (either a ten-piece nugget or a Big Mac). The only new item is the Nether Flame sauce. The sauce was highly advertised, making it what I looked forward to most.

After dipping one of my nuggets in the sauce, I couldn’t help but pucker my lips. It was advertised as spicy, but it was nowhere near spicy, only horribly sweet. After a couple of bites, the Nether Flame sauce made my mouth feel sore. It tasted like vinegar and was a challenge to get down.

However, McDonald’s prevailed when it came to the toys. I got the Grimace Egg toy, which was the one I wanted the most. Something about the blocky figure brought back a nostalgic feeling from when I played Minecraft years ago.

The toys also came with a card. The card has a code on the back you can enter into your Minecraft account to unlock the skin of the toy you got. This is a standout feature and for sure bumps up the ratings of the menu; however, everything else was a letdown.

Nothing about the menu was different than going to McDonald’s on any given day, and the whole experience cost me $14. So, if you want to pay for a new Minecraft skin, then go to McDonald’s. If you don’t want mouth pain, stay home.
