Clyde’s Five, an engagement program that Student Life launched in spring 2024, intends to provide students with a well-rounded college experience by engaging in co-curricular activities and connecting with UCCS traditions. 

According to their website, the program consists of five thematic areas: traditions and belonging, wellbeing, leadership, social responsibility and global engagement. Students must complete five different experiences in each area to complete the program. The website outlines three required core items per area and additional elective items students may choose from for the last two experiences.  

According to the Director of Student Life Noelle San Souci, the program soft launched with a pilot program in spring of 2024 and focused on students who had already halfway completed the program requirements, but the program hasn’t been marketed since because the Student Life Department has been understaffed, San Souci said.  

Instead, Student Life met with those students individually to teach them the program and map their course to ensure they complete the program before graduating. 

Once completed, students will receive a graduation stole and be recognized at the student leadership award ceremony during the ROAR Daze week, which is hosted in the middle of the semester every spring. Since it was launched, 30 students have completed the program. 

San Souci hopes that marketing to all students will begin in the spring after a new assistant director of Student Life is hired. 

Clyde’s Five gives students an opportunity to try new things they may have otherwise not known about, connect with peers and network with faculty, staff and community members. The program also incentivizes students to get on-campus jobs, vote in an SGA election and attend UCCSlead Game Changers, half-day leadership experiences hosted by Student Life. 

The program will also provide various rewards, gifts, swag and benefits for students who participate in it, according to the Mountain Lion Connect Clyde’s Five page.  

Junior Chelsea Baker, a business major with an emphasis in cybersecurity management, completed the program last spring. “I think the Clyde’s Five program is the start to a more engaged and stronger UCCS. This program helps students stay goal oriented, attend events, develop professional skills, learn more about UCCS as well as build Mountain Lion pride,” Baker said.  

Students can monitor their progress with the program by logging into their MLC account and going to the paths tab under their profile. The page will tell you what areas still need completed and give guidance on how to complete them.
