Engineering Building
student and professor celebrating on the stepsof the EAS building
Welcome to The Engineering building. This building is home to our departments for Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Math.

Some of the really awesome features of this building are our anechoic chamber, clean rooms, computer science research labs, and the Math Excel Center.

From the main lobby, you can see one of the computer science research labs called the VAST Lab. In the VAST Lab, students and faculty do research on facial recognition and machine learning.

Our anechoic chamber is really cool space. It’s a massive box covered on the inside by huge foam spikes. The foam spikes cancel out any echoes, thus the name anechoic chamber. Anechoic means “no echoes”. Additionally, the chamber is insulated from electromagnetic radiation. The electrical engineering department uses this facility to test a wide array of communication equipment.

Down the hallway from the anechoic chamber, you can see some of our clean rooms. The rooms look like they’re yellow, but it’s just yellow glass on the outside. These facilities are used to manufacture electrical components called wafers. The clean rooms are also so high quality that some outside companies come to UCCS to use our clean rooms.

Upstairs is the Math Excel Center. Just like the Science Excel Center in Centennial Hall, there are subject matter expert student tutors to help out other students for free. If you need help with calculus homework, reviewing probability concepts, or studying for a differential equations exam, the tutors here can help you out. Plus they have free coffee at all the Excel Centers, so there’s really no reason not to go.
