Get ready to cheer UCCS on in an esports tournament against Fort Carson!

Two teams from each institution, with six players per team, are facing off on April 26, from 1 – 5 p.m., in a virtual Marvel Rivals tournament. UCCS members of the Esports Club and soldiers of Better Opportunity for Single Soldiers (BOSS) will play in a double elimination tournament for first place in the superhero-based shooter versus shooter game. Spectators can watch live via Twitch streaming and hear live commentary from the players.

“I am so excited to see UCCS take on Fort Carson in the upcoming esports tournament,” said UCCS Chancellor Jennifer Sobanet. “This event is a chance to both build camaraderie and celebrate talent across our institutions, while strengthening the ties that connect the university and the military community.”

The tournament will feature three rounds, beginning with teams from both sides competing against each other in round one. The winners of this match will move on to round two, competing for first place and the $100 prize for each winning team member, and the other two teams competing to avoid fourth place. Round three will have the remaining teams playing each other to determine second and third place.

“The entire UCCS Esports Club is very excited for this awesome opportunity to play against Fort Carson in this tournament,” said Andrew White, President of the Esports Club. “We hope that we can continue to build this tournament into a yearly event and maybe even look into having more schools and teams join in on the fun!”

The Fort Carson participants are from the BOSS program, which “represents the voice of the single soldier.” Based on three pillars of quality of life, community service and recreation and leisure, the program supports the individual soldier’s choices on how to navigate life, leisure and support of the community around them. BOSS members take an active role in helping organize recreational activities and community projects.

”The inaugural esports tournament between UCCS and the Fort Carson BOSS program marks more than just a competition – it is a celebration of community, camaraderie, and the growing power of gaming to bring people together across campuses and military bases alike,” said Ryan J. Noble director of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation at Fort Carson.
