The Division of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion will be hosting the 2024 CU Social Justice Summit at UCCS from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8. This year’s theme is Inclusive Leadership and Belonging, centering each campus’s commitment to fostering inclusive learning and work environments.

The summit will explore four areas of focus:

• Social Activism and Community Engagement
• Equity in Research, Teaching, and Scholarship
• Mental Health, Wellness, and Self-care
• Advocacy, Safety, and Transformative Justice

This biennial, systemwide event will include engaging discussions alongside leaders, educators, researchers and advocates dedicated to fostering inclusive leadership and belonging across our communities.

The event is open to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, university staff and frontline employees from CU Boulder, CU Denver, UCCS, the CU Anschutz Medical Campus, and the CU system office in Denver. Alumni and other community members are also welcome to attend the summit. The in-person option will take place in the UCCS Ent Center for the Arts, and there will be a virtual option available.

“We are thrilled to host the CU System Social Justice Summit at UCCS this coming fall semester,” said Rame Hanna, Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. “This summit will serve as a collaborative space, gathering the collective wisdom of our four campuses toward transformative change. Together, as a CU community, we will continue to uplift the voices and lived experiences of diverse students, staff and faculty and reaffirm our foundational values of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging across Colorado and beyond.”

Registration is now open; the planning committee recommends that participants register early. More information about the full schedule of sessions will become available on the summit webpage in early August.

The 2024 CU Social Justice planning committee invites program proposals from CU faculty, staff, and students. The program proposals, which should align with the four areas of focus, should also center effective practices that will engage participants in fruitful discussions and provide meaningful content to bring back to their campuses. Program proposals can be submitted here by June 15, 2024.
