The UCCS community celebrated faculty, staff, students and alumni in the annual Campus Awards Ceremony, held on April 17 in Berger Hall.
“There have been so many accomplishments to recognize from the past year,” said Jennifer Sobanet, Chancellor of UCCS. “I cannot emphasize enough that these successes are thanks to you, our phenomenal students, faculty and staff. We simply could not do it without you.”
The ceremony honored recipients of campus awards, in addition to faculty and staff who retired in the past year. The award recipients included:
- Alumni and Friends Award: Jaxon Engineering
- Campus Legacy Builders: Dave Anderson, Chair of the Chemistry & Biochemistry department and Ronald Ruminski, Professor of Chemistry & Biochemistry
- Campus Sustainability Award: Dylan Harris, Assistant Professor of Geography and Environmental Studies
- Chancellor’s Award: Ann Amicucci, Associate Professor of English
- Culture of Care Award: Laurel Bidwell, Associate Professor and Bachelor of Social Work Program Director in the College of Public Service, and Whitley Hadley, Director of the MOSAIC and LGBTQ+ Resource Center
- Faculty Assembly Service Award: Minette Church, Professor of Anthropology
- Faculty Award for Excellence in Research: Shouhuai Xu, Gallogly Endowed Engineering Chair in Cybersecurity and Professor of Computer Science
- Garrett Swasey Outstanding Staff Award: Margie Oldham, Director of Letters, Arts & Sciences Community Relations and Director of the National Student Exchange Program
- Outstanding Instructor Award: James Baginski, Associate Teaching Professor in Geography and Environmental Studies
- Outstanding Teacher Award: David Weiss, Associate Professor of Chemistry & Biochemistry
- Ron Wisner Human Spirit and Leadership Award: Micah Vacco, Student Life & Leadership
- Student Achievement Awards: Aiyanna Quinones, Sociology, and Madeline Metzger, Nursing and Health Sciences
- Student Employee of the Year Award: Morgan Parker, Languages Center Lead Tutor
- Students’ Choice Award for Educator of the Year: Dan Olson, Associate Teaching Professor in the College of Public Service
- Students’ Choice Staff Member of the Year: Becca Cherpak, Coordinator of Student Engagement
- Thomas F. McLaughlin Awards: Caleb Stubbings, Baseball athlete, majoring in Business Administration, and Maison White, Basketball athlete, majoring in Criminal Justice
