Enrollment Management and Student Affairs
UCCS ROAR Days were wildly successful! This was a collaboration in EMSA between departments, including Student Life and MOSAIC. Events included the Drag Show with MOSAIC, Black Excellence Gala with Black Student Union (BSU), Holi with Indian Student Alliance (ISA), Journey to African with African Student Association (ASA) and more. Total estimated attendance (non-unique) is over 700!
CLC exceeded their fundraising goal for Carry the Light campaign. They fully funded one scholarship, which was the goal, a second scholarship is nearly funded.
Veteran and Military Affairs (VMA)
VMA is teaming up with Orientation to host military-affiliated orientations at the Student Veteran Center! They offer five sessions every Thursday, accommodating up to eight students and their guests. Each new student participates in a regular orientation with a military-focused twist, registers for courses with an Orientation Leader, and is paired with a VMA student or staff member for personalized support. They are guided through the process of starting and utilizing VA benefits or military tuition assistance, complete an initial intake to identify potential barriers to starting school, and are introduced to the support and resources available in our office. Each orientation attendee receives a checklist, a folder of information, and a t-shirt featuring our signature red, white, and blue mountain lion pawprint!
CPS Faculty Awards Winners
Two outstanding CPS faculty members were honored at the UCCS Campus Awards Ceremony on April 17.
Laurel Bidwell, Associate Professor and BSW Program Director, received the inaugural faculty Culture of Care Award. As one of the Four Pillars aligned with the UCCS 2030 Strategic Plan, A Commitment to Building a Culture of Care serves as the foundation of UCCS’ commitment to creating and sustaining a welcoming culture for all at UCCS. Bidwell was honored for her commitment to building a culture of care and inclusion, critical to fostering an environment that is holistically supportive to students, faculty, and staff.
Dan Olson, Associate Teaching Professor in Criminal Justice, received the Student Government Association’s Students’ Choice Award for Faculty Member of Year. Each year, students nominate educators for this prestigious teaching award, and a Student Government Award Committee chooses the winner. This award follows another highlight for Dan, as at last year’s awards ceremony he received the UCCS Instructor of the Year Award.
We couldn’t be more proud of our colleagues and their contributions!
