Othello
Runs April – May with several showtimes | Dusty Loo Bon Vivant Theater

  • Against all odds, a Black man climbs the social ladder of a rigidly homogenous Venice—finding success in politics, military efforts, and even love. At his side, a woman born to status holds firm in her agency, even as her world reduces her to a symbol. For the first time, Theatreworks welcomes director Mikael Burke (Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Yale Rep) to helm this essential Shakespearean tragedy not seen on our stage since 1988.

Prologue: Othello
Runs April 26 – May 5 with several showtimes | Shockley-Zalabak Theater

  • Shakespeare is an integral part of American theatre; the Bard of Avon is still the most produced playwright in the country – but why? Artistic Director Caitlin Lowans joins Associate Professor Max Shulman and Othello director Mikael Burke, to dive in to the enduring love of William Shakespeare, discuss our Othello, and the ways we keep these timeless tales fresh and relevant.

Men On Boats
Runs April 26 – May 5 with several showtimes | Osborne Studio Theater

  • Ten men in a big, BIG Canyon: Men on Boats takes us on the first successful trip down the Colorado River. It’s 1869, and a party of daring explorers face the threats of rushing rapids, a dwindling food supply, and their own hard-headedness as they attempt to chart the Grand Canyon. But this American story of white masculinity is taken up by a cast of diverse women, flipping the historic tale on its head, and creating a wildly theatrical satire. Select a showtime and purchase tickets here.

Prologue: Men on Boats
Friday, April 26 at 6 p.m. | Ent Center for the Arts

  • To accompany the UCCS Theatre Company’s production of Jaclyn Backhaus’ “Men on Boats,” join us for a conversation that examines the foundational role that our country has given to masculinity within our national identity. From the colonial era, through westward expansion, and into the present era, our definition of masculinity has changed from generation to generation. But, the patriarchal system has remained. How has America’s reverence for the masculine held us back, and how can our redefinition of gender lead to a brighter future?
