After being ranked for the first time, the social work program in the College of Public Service (CPS) has landed in the top 26% of social work programs.

The ranking comes from US News and World Report and is an especially notable accomplishment considering the program’s youth. UCCS social work came in at third in the state and 83 out of 318 programs total, and is currently the highest-ranked graduate program offered at UCCS. Additionally, all the departments in CPS now have programs that are nationally ranked.

“I made a promise a long time ago that I would never make a decision with ranking in mind,” said George Reed, Ph.D., and Dean and Professor of CPS. “Our philosophy in the college is that we do what we do, and if outside organizations recognize our excellence then all the better. It does feel good when the recognition comes. This happened because the social work faculty worked exceedingly hard and staff built a quality program that is helping to meet the needs of our students and the region.”

The Department of Social Work empowers students to make a significant difference in the lives of others, and both the Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education’s Commission on Accreditation.
